"Everything that we experience as a material reality is born in an invisible realm beyond space and time; it is very difficult to assume that our origin, our precedence, is not of this world. Here we are, with all of our characteristics. People see us, hear us and believe our existence, but our existence is almost nonexistent. Images, textures, and colors do not exist on the atomic level. The soul is the point of union between my virtual self and my physical self, and it is the organizing intelligence that keeps us intact, an exceptional feat given that our bodies’ atoms are merely empty space through which bursts of energy pass through in millionths of a second. This is the power of creation, a force that plays with our existence in the blink of an eye, where dust creates stars, stars become worlds and worlds result in the organic material of DNA.”Deepak Chopra

Therefore, whenever we are confronted with a work of art, it becomes a part of infinite possibilities. It is up to the observer to establish the connection between the inner self (soul) and the soul of the work under contemplation.

Following these principles inspired by quantum physics, Kamel Ilian has developed the project Ether, which will be exhibited at Arte Consultores beginning on January 26. In this series he uses aluminum powder, mica and silica pigments, all different materials that reflect metallic hues. These elements that claim to be the small particles that make up the whole.

The show, composed of 15 abstract paintings in medium and large formats and close to 10 drawings in small formats, will mark Ilian’s return to the country, who was living and working in Spain and Brazil from 2000 until 2010. With exhibits and studies carried out in Colombia, Brazil, United States, Belgium, Spain and Germany, Kamel Ilian returns to his native country with a body of work that is marvelously resounding.
